he Nokia 9 PureView is not even official yet but we have already started hearing talks now of its successor. As per a new leak, HMD Global is working on a 5G version of the Nokia 9 PureView that will debut in the second half of 2019. Notably, the phone is said to be the true 2019 flagship as it will run a next-gen Snapdragon 855 chipset as opposed to the upcoming Nokia 9 PureView that will be powered by a Snapdragon 845 SoC.
It would be wise to take this new leak with a handful of salt considering it comes from a newly created account on Twitter by the name Nokia_Leaks. As per the account, the Nokia 9 PureView successor should come out sometime in August. The tweet also claims the successor will come with a penta-camera system like the upcoming Nokia 9 PureView but with a bigger sensor and better imaging quality.
Notably, the tweet also adds that the Nokia 9 PureView successor will come with a true bezel-less 2K display with no notch but rather a hole in the screen for the selfie camera. This wouldn’t be surprising as the punch-hole display design is set to go mainstream this year. We have already seen it on the Samsung Galaxy A8s and Honor V20 (View20), and it is also expected to show up on the Galaxy S10 as well.
The latest leak has already been challenged by a more popular Nokia leak account, called Nokia anew, which tweeted a reply saying that the info provided by Nokia_Leaks is “fantasy”. It seems that the Nokia 9 PureView is the only flagship planned for the near future and that a successor is not likely until November. In the same thread NokiaPowerUser commented that HMD is indeed working on a 5G smartphone that is due to launch this year.
In the meanwhile, the actual Nokia 9 PureView has been leaked multiple times already and a leaked promo video this week all but confirmed the design and certain key specs. The phone will indeed offer five rear cameras with Zeiss optics and PureView branding. The cameras will highlight features such as 5 simultaneous shots, HDR support and up to 10x lighter as per the promo video. It will also come with last year’s Snapdragon 845 chipset, which sounds similar to what HMD did with the Nokia 8 Sirocco when it launched the device last year with a 2017 Snapdragon 835 SoC..
The Nokia 9 PureView is expected to go official later this month (23rd January), although HMD is yet to confirm anything.
